Shine's Privacy Policy

Shine ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). We adhere to the 10 fair information principles outlined in PIPEDA to ensure the fair and transparent handling of personal information.

 

Accountability

• We are responsible for the personal information we collect, use, and disclose. 

• We have appointed a Privacy Officer who is accountable for our compliance with the 10 fair information principles and other privacy laws.

 

Identifying Purposes

• Shine collects and maintains membership information for internal use.

• Shine does NOT sell the membership mailing list to specific companies for commercial purposes for example.

 

Consent

• Implied and express consent is sought before information is shared. Members can withdraw consent in general or as it relates to a specific activity at any time.

• There may be situations in which information can and must be shared without express or implied consent. These situations include, for example, where required by law, where consent can't be reasonably obtained, where there exists a danger to others or where the information is publicly available.

 

Limiting Collection

• Shine limits the collection of personal information to that information specifically needed for identified purposes.

 

Limiting Use, Disclosure, and Retention

• Information is used and/or disclosed for the purposes it is collected.

• Information is retained for a reasonable amount of time and destroyed when no longer of use for the purposes it is collected.

 

Accuracy

• Shine makes every effort to ensure the personal information collected is accurate.

• We give individuals a reasonable opportunity to review and correct personal information in its possession.

 

Safeguards

• We will implement security measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures will be appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

Openness

• Shine makes personal information open for inspection by the person who owns the information.

• Requests to review personal information, change/correct personal information, or make a complaint to OPA about the collection and/or use of personal information are directed to the OPA Privacy Officer.

 

Individual Access

• Upon request, Shine will provide individuals with access to their personal information, subject to limited exceptions permitted by law.

• We will also assist individuals in updating or correcting their personal information as necessary.

 

Challenging Compliance

• Individuals have the right to challenge our compliance with the 10 fair information principles. Inquiries or complaints regarding our privacy practices should be addressed to our Privacy Officer using the contact information provided in our Privacy Policy.
